Media, is it good or bad? The people’s normal outlook towards media is that of something ‘’bad’ or ‘’evil’ .The church too either slowly moves away from media it or condemns it outright. But the word “Media” just refers to various means of communication, like television, radio, and the newspaper, etc.. The term can also be used as a collective noun for the press or news reporting agencies. In the computer world, “media” is also used as a collective noun, but refers to different types of data storage options.

Media itself is not evil; it all depends on how we use it and for what we use it. It is a powerful tool that is open to all to use.  I believe that if we as Christians use the media well, we will be able to greatly impact our society and lead it in the right direction. We can shape our country and influence the people to a right kind of living.  The church is a place where we can find a community of talented persons at one time. There is no dearth of volunteers in our churches. We can use our creativity in writing in News papers, acting, and script writing for radio or television and internet. All that it requires is a little bit of training and experience.  The time has come for the church to act. We are in fact a little late in exploiting the uses of media .We as church need media to impact our society in general and also to keep connected with our congregation on a daily basis.

Christians are unfortunately the last ones to respond to any issues regarding our nation and to some controversial issues too. . It is always the others who respond first and then as an afterthought we may add a line or two to make our presence felt. The Church needs to address these issues in public too and not just inside the church for only he members to hear.  Here are few ways the church can use the Electronic media.

1. Reach out to the shut inns that are unable to come to church on Sundays.
2. Blogging that will allow the readers in and outside the church to know the views on issues that is confronting the world
3. Use it to sow the seed anywhere in India for church planting
4. Reach the world through internet. Sermons, articles, correspondence course etc can be developed.
5. On line counseling 24 hours can be developed
6. Have a wide net work of friends and prayer partners through face book.
7. Use the FM broadcast reaches the non church goers and get them interested.

Media is God’s gift to the Church. Do not throw it away for want of training and expertise. There are organizations that can help the church to use the media effectively.
